Nick Lachey and Vanessa Lachey (née Minnillo) met and fell in love, and now they make a living watching other people fall in love. At the very least, there will be drama.
The Lacheys rule over strange and high-stakes dating experiments as hosts of the Netflix shows “Love Is Blind” and, more recently, “The Ultimatum.” Couples got engaged sight unseen in one show. In another, committed couples split up and date other individuals to see if this will help them decide whether or not to marry.
As hosts, one of the Lacheys’ responsibilities is to connect with candidates by sharing their own life stories. As a result, you’ll hear the couple tell never-before-told anecdotes on the podcast.
While the Lacheys aren’t the main characters in “Love Is Blind” and “The Ultimatum,” they remain a persistent presence in both films (along with those metallic goblets). With that in mind, here’s how the pair describes their relationship. We’ll be sure to learn more about the Lacheys as both “Love Is Blind” and “The Ultimatum” return for further seasons.
Vanessa claimed that appearing in Nick’s music video marked the’start’ of their relationship.
Nick and Vanessa met on Vanessa’s show, “Total Request Live,” which she hosted from 2003 to 2007. Nick used to come to the show to promote his music with his band, 98 Degrees, at the time.
From 2002 to 2005, Nick was married to Jessica Simpson and starred in the MTV show “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.” “during a significant portion of that time
Nick and Vanessa, on the other hand, first became romantically involved following Nick’s divorce from Jessica Simpson in 2005. Vanessa played the woman who broke Nick’s heart in the music video for his ballad “What’s Left of Me” in 2006.
Vanessa discussed the timing of their romance with Billboard in 2017.
“We didn’t reconnect until I split up with my longterm boyfriend at the same time he was getting divorced,” she explained. “He released a solo album and asked me to do the video for ‘What’s Left of Me,'” she says.
While recording the video, she said their connection “became romantic.”
“However, the video… was the start of our relationship,” Vanessa continued. “That’s when it stopped being buddies and became romantic. To the point where, if you watch the video again, you’ll notice that when he came to debut it, I was so nervous and crushing on him that I didn’t show up for work that day. I called in ill to work.”
Vanessa admitted that dating Nick while he was going through a “very public divorce” was “extremely difficult.”
Nick and Vanessa made their public couple debut during MTV’s New Year’s Eve broadcast in 2007, sharing a kiss instead of a red carpet appearance.
Vanessa revealed details about their early connection in episode six of “The Ultimatum,” which took place shortly after Nick’s divorce from Simpson.
“He was in a pretty public marriage and divorce, and I had to go through all that s—- in front of a lot of people.” “It was quite difficult for us,” Vanessa explained.
Vanessa stated that in order for their relationship to progress, they needed to let go of the past. “It wasn’t until he said, ‘I’m going to let it go,'” she says. ‘I’m going to let it go,’ I decided. And we were totally dedicated to each other, falling deeper and harder than we could have imagined,” Vanessa remarked.
Now, everything between Simpson and Nick is OK. Nick told TODAY’s Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager in 2020 that he and his ex-wife have “mutual respect” for one another and that they had “gone on” from their marriage.
Simpson married Eric Johnson, a former American football tight end, in 2014. They are the parents of three children.
Nick knew he wanted to marry Vanessa from the beginning.
Nick didn’t need much persuasion when it came to Vanessa. He thought she was “the one” early on in their relationship.
“I knew right away with my fiancée that we were a wonderful match, that I loved her, and that I wanted to marry her.” “In 2010, one month after proposing to her, he told CNN. “I had a good sense that was the one I wanted to be with within the first six months we dated.”
In 2011, the couple married on Sir Richard Branson’s own island, Necker Island, in the British Virgin Islands.
Vanessa, on the other hand, issued an ultimatum, and they began dating other people before becoming engaged.
Vanessa confessed in an episode of “The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On” that she surprised herself by giving her spouse an ultimatum five years into their relationship. She continued, “I always said I was going to be that girl who would never give a man an ultimatum.”
They were living together at the time, and she was on the verge of marrying him. “At some point, I asked, ‘What are we doing?'” I’ve now moved in with him, and I completely remodelled his bachelor pad, which included a poolside bar. She remarked on the show, “Now I’m like, ‘OK, well, I want to throw kids in the pool.'”
The Lacheys spit up and dated other people in order to make their decision, just like the couples on “The Ultimatum.” The procedure was instructive.
“We both saw one other person and recognised we might be fantastic together if we got out of our own way,” Vanessa added. “However, it took seeing someone else and recognising that I didn’t mind the things that bothered me or held me back.” That doesn’t bother me at all “she stated
“The broader picture is how I feel about this person and their ideals of wanting to be with me and knowing everything there is to know about me,” she continued.
The couple has three children, and Nick admits that becoming a father ‘blows his mind every day.’
Camden, their first child, was born to them in 2012. Brooklyn, their daughter, was born in 2015, and Phoenix, their second son, was born in 2016.
Nick told People that when his first child was born, he “cried like a weeping child,” and that parenting continues to amaze him.
“I had a lot of ideas for what parenthood would be like since I had thought about it for so long, but it blows your mind every day when it happens,” he added. “You just can’t put into words how much joy this small creature that you produced, that looks to you and depends on you, offers you.” Your children are the most precious gift you could ever get.”
Nick and Vanessa appeared on TODAY with Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford in 2018 to discuss having three children. Vanessa stated, “It just gets better and better.”
Vanessa claims she writes notes in lipstick on the mirror for Nick.
Vanessa stated in an August 2020 interview with Us Weekly that the coronavirus pandemic gave her and Nick their “greatest highs” and “lowest lows.” But all it accomplished was to improve their “communication” as a pair.
“It’s forced us to communicate better, and it’s caused us to let go of things we thought we had under control or tools we utilised in our relationship,” she added.
