Following his recent WWE wrestling appearances, the Puerto Rican musician and singer will play a superpowered wrestler.
Bad Bunny, who has been the world’s most popular singer on Spotify for the past two years, will star in a new Marvel film.
El Muerto will star the 28-year-old Puerto Rican vocalist Benito Antonio Martnez Ocasio, whose eponymous character is a wrester with a superpowered mask.
“It’s absolutely wonderful… so exciting” to bring El Muerto to life, Bad Bunny told an audience at industry event CinemaCon. The film is set to hit theatres in 2024.
Bad Bunny has wrestled at major WWE events such as WrestleMania 37 in 2021 and the Royal Rumble earlier this year, in addition to his immensely successful music career.
He revealed the title of his upcoming album, Un Verano Sin Ti, this week, but no release date has been scheduled. It will follow the three full-length albums he released in 2020: YHLQMDLG, Las Que No Iban a Salir, and El ltimo Tour del Mundo, which made him the most streamed artist on Spotify in 2020 and 2021, especially in the Americas.
El Muerto will continue Bad Bunny’s budding acting career, since he also has a role in the upcoming Japan-set thriller Bullet Train, starring Brad Pitt.
Along with the core Marvel stable, El Muerto continues to build the Spider-Man universe of characters shepherded by Sony Pictures. Before El Muerto, there will be two more Sony-Marvel films: Kraven the Hunter, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Madame Web, starring Dakota Johnson, following two films featuring the character Venom and the recently critically panned Morbius.
