Following his breakout turn in the Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck genre-bending feature Freaky Tales, actor Mike Infante is shifting gears. The Sacramento native is intentionally targeting complex, character-driven narratives to challenge traditional industry casting standards and carve out a space in contemporary romantic drama.
Infante, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at birth, first captured Hollywood’s attention in Freaky Tales. Set against the backdrop of 1987 Oakland, the Lionsgate and eOne anthology saw Infante share the screen with an ensemble cast including Pedro Pascal, Jay Ellis, and Ben Mendelsohn. Infante played Nick, a blade-crutch-wielding punk rocker navigating the film’s gritty underworld, a role that showcased his physical versatility and high-energy screen presence.
Rather than staying confined to high-concept action ensembles, Infante is channeling that momentum into the romantic drama space and is officially set to start filming the highly anticipated romantic short film Under the Rug. Directed by Alyssa Jules Lozano, the project sees Infante stepping directly into the archetype of the traditional cinematic heartthrob. The narrative follows Aidan Cervantez, a young cobbler with cerebral palsy whose life shifts when a deep emotional connection forces him to choose between hiding his insecurities and allowing himself to be seen.
Infante expanded his footprint in the genre with Love Ends with Death Directed by Soibi Ross, pulling double duty as both the star and a producer. In the romantic short, he plays Everett, a man navigating the intense emotional fallout after his partner reveals a dark secret. The project underscores Infante’s commitment to generating and controlling his own material from behind the camera.
The transition to dialogue-heavy, intimate drama pulls from Infante’s extensive background in live theater, where he has performed in more than thirty-five stage productions. Notable theatrical credits include starring as Gilbert in the college-age romance production Before Harmony Sleeps with Jeff.
Outside of his film and stage work, Infante is a competitive natural bodybuilder within the World Natural Bodybuilding Federation, a discipline he credits with bringing a distinct physical presence and work ethic to his dramatic roles.
As a testament to his rising star power, fans can’t wait to see what he does next. There is immense hope among his growing following that major television networks and streaming platforms will take notice and cast Infante as the lead in a major romantic television series, bringing much-needed authentic and diverse representation to mainstream episodic romance.
