It’s been dubbed “The Party of the Year,” “The East Coast’s Oscars,” and “Fashion’s Biggest Night.” The Met Gala is an event to remember in any case, and we’re here to help you remember it with our Met Gala red carpet live blog.
The coming out ball for “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” is tonight. With approximately 100 garments presented across 13 of the Met’s American period rooms, each of which has been styled by renowned film directors, from Martin Scorsese to Julia Dash, the exhibition explores the work of famous names in fashion (Halston, Oscar de la Renta, Bill Blass, and others) as well as those that have been overlooked (like Ann Lowe, the African American maker of Jacqueline Kennedy’s wedding gown).
Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Regina King will emcee the event, which will benefit the Costume Institute (a normal Met Gala earns an eight-figure sum for the museum). Honorary co-chairs Anna Wintour, Tom Ford, and Adam Mosseri of Instagram, as well as a who’s who of the world’s top personalities, will be in attendance, all of whom have been instructed on the “gilded glamour” dress code. What are they going to wear? Expect a lot of danger. “What I love about the Met is that people are so fearless,” Anna Wintour adds.
